The architecture and interior architecture programs at the University of Oregon invite applications for part-time and limited-duration positions to teach drawing courses, furniture design and fabrication, construction documents, and design studios. Appointments may be from one to three quarters, not to exceed one year.

Additionally, we are seeking applications for three one-term distinguished visiting positions: The Frederick Charles Baker Chair in Architectural Design, with a special focus on the study of light and lighting; the Pietro Belluschi Distinguished Professor in Architectural Design; the Margo Grant Walsh Professor in Interior Architectural Design; and the Julie Neupert Stott Visiting Professor in Interior Architectural Design. Appointments to the distinguished professorships are made from a continuing pool of candidates.

Successful candidates will have either academic or professional experience in their teaching area, demonstrated ability or potential for quality teaching and a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. A professional master’s degree or PhD is preferred. In exceptional circumstances, significant professional experience in a relevant field may substitute for the advanced degree. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis and the pool will remain active through 2010-2011.

THE POSITION
The Facilities Planner II, Architect/Planner is an exciting opportunity for a service-oriented planning and architectural professional. The scope of work includes opportunities for vision and creativity in Master Planning as well as detailed, client-centered design work. In addition to exhibiting strong technical skills, the selected candidate will be able to demonstrate the inclusion of sustainability, cultural competency and diversity in their past experience, education and/or volunteer work. EDUCATION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

\REQUIRED EDUCATION
A bachelors degree with course work in architecture, engineering, building construction management, or construction technical field.

A current Oregon driver's license is required.

\PREFERRED EDUCATION
* An advanced degree in urban planning, architecture, public master planning, strategic planning, sustainability, or an associated technical field is preferred.

* LEED certification

* General Contractor License

* Architect License

EXPERIENCE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

\REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in architectural design work on public projects with at least two (2) years experience as a lead architect.

\PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
* Substantial Planning Experience (Master planning, campus planning, urban planning or long-term growth planning is preferred)

* Experience implementing renewable energy and energy efficiency projects

Position Purpose:
The Facilities Planner II is a leadership position within the Facilities Management Team, Office Staff, and Planning trades teams. Position is responsible for completing projects from concept to construction with regard to schedule and budget constraints and as defined by College.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

COORDINATION / LEADERSHIP
* Coordinate and hire architects, design engineering firms, generate bid documents.
* Lead the Wayfinding committee to establish standards, implement improvements, and meet the college needs for ADA and general population directional information sharing.
* Organize, prioritize, and implement sequential ADA improvements throughout the college.
* Coordinate and schedule day-to-day work of consultants and contractors on specific construction projects; relocation of staff displaced during remodeling.
* Review and coordinate building permits and inspections through the Lane County Planning department and the City of Eugene Planning departments.
* Apply sustainable building principles in construction and/or maintenance projects; Support the College's commitment to Sustainability as a core value.
* Work collaboratively to ensure deadlines are met and position requirements are accurate and complete.
* Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships and communications with department and college staff.
* Ensure that all Oregon OSHA safety regulations are followed.
* Work directly with and lead the work of CAD drafting students in work study, co-op learning opportunities, or in part-time employment capacities.
* Maintain social awareness of the campus, student and staff environment; perform duties in alignment with college strategic directions.
* Role model cultural competency; support staff attendance at diversity trainings and professional development opportunities.

TECHNICAL / TRADE
* Meet with stakeholders for initial consultations, determine needs using comprehensive data and information
* Apply LEED green building rating system
* Write, edit, review, and approve construction documents (such as: drawings, specifications, field change orders, application for progress payments)
* Utilize industry-standard formats for contract documents.
* Maintain currency and apply advanced computer skills including project management, word processing, spreadsheet and database programs
* Update college as-built drawings in electronic format, maintaining hard copy formats, and providing design firms and architectural firms with essential and complete information
* Inspect projects for conformance with plans and specifications; prepare reports on progress of projects; approve change requests
* Actively support suppliers, contractors and staff as a first contact for problems and concerns; develop and maintain positive relationships; apply conflict resolution skills
* Support renewable energy systems market and waste minimization and recycling processes

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of and skill in:
1. Architectural design and structural engineering principles and practices; knowledge of all applicable building, environmental impact, plumbing, electrical, safety and fire codes; knowledge of heating, cooling, electrical and mechanical systems; knowledge of construction materials and practices; knowledge of and skill in producing architectural drawings and calculations; skill in both manual and computer aided drafting (CAD).
2. Effective and comprehensive construction project administration and conflict resolution to allow solutions oriented positive outcomes and fostering a win-win team oriented project and maintenance effort.

Knowledge of and ability to:
1. Organize and coordinate all electronic and hard copy project administration and construction documents on technology supported and secured web pages, WIKI's, shared college drives, and/or other department supported information sharing means and methods.
2. Coordinate and assure the generation of college construction design and maintenance standards and specifications for materials and methods. These standards and specifications must represent the college and industry best practices in alignment with college strategic directives and core values.

Ability to:
1. Interpret and apply the principles.
2. Make critical decisions and exercise leadership.
3. Develop and administer budgets and grants.
4. Effectively direct the activities of assigned positions.
5. Effectively advocate for the project and represent the College in a professional manner.
6. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. This includes documenting construction site daily project check sheets, writing LaneWeekly communications, participating in all project meetings, and documenting all project administration changes to the contract, design, bidding, and awarding of the contracts, and processing all requests for information, requests for proposals, change directives, schedules of values, and all other associated documents in a timely fashion.
7. Work with special diverse campus and external populations as required by the position.
8. Use high level project management software and MS Office group software.
9. Lead teams and work independently and in a multi-team environment with limited resources and multiple varied stakeholders in a competitive and diverse project management setting.
10. Apply all State of Oregon Lane County Building codes, contractor law, best practices associated with construction and maintenance projects, project management, scheduling, field change order processing, and contractor coordination.
11. Read and interpret drawings and specifications in alignment with building codes, ordinances, statutes, scope of work requirements, and commonly accepted best construction practices.
12. Understand and apply LEED green building rating systems and green building principles to remodel, repair, and renovation projects.
13. Respond promptly to email requests and discussions.
14. Work in a union environment.
15. Provide and encourage positive and timely solutions to issues and challenges associated with project or maintenance assignments.
16. Process monthly progress payments for assigned construction projects with cover letters, schedule of values, updated schedules, updated AIA contract documents, and other support information as needed for each payment.

Physical Demands:
Work safely, adhering to OSHA standards in the following:
* ability to work at heights of over 50 feet as required by the position; ability to transport ladders, power and hand tools and maintenance equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
* ability to climb, work in confined spaces and work on knees as required by the position
* ability to work safely while supporting staff and employees in working safely

Supervision Statement:
SUPERVISION STATEMENT
* Works under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities Management and Planning.
* This position is available to answer questions and troubleshoot problems on a daily basis and may have substantial input into hiring decisions and performance evaluations.
