EUGENE PARKLET COMPETITION
Entries Due June 16
The City of Eugene Parking Department and the AIA Southwestern Oregon Chapter are organizing a Parklet Competition in Eugene for the summer of 2017. The initiative is a partnership between the City, Downtown Merchants, and other local organizations as part of a series of events that will take place around downtown Eugene this summer that are geared towards increasing pedestrian presence and community involvement.
Entries are due Friday, June 16th. At the June Chapter Meeting on June 21, we expect to announce four winners of the 2017 Design-Build Parklet competition with the intention to have the winning designs built and installed by July 29th for Downtown Eugene's Sunday Streets event.
The City of Eugene has provided up to $2,000 per winning entry for materials and related construction costs. These will be awarded after evaluating the winning entries and will be at the discretion of the AIA SWO Task Force running this event. We want to encourage lots of design entries and have some fun getting people together to have them built.
We are seeking general contractors, sponsors and volunteers to partner with us in facilitating the build of the winning entries. Partnering can be in the form of assisting in the building of the parklets, donations for materials, contributions for funds and time. Each of the built parklets will include a Partner board and the AIA SWO will include recognition for all our Partners at the final event.
